This guy is kinda cranky, but i can't fault his facts in this article. It doesn't apply to really high end places, but your average local cafe/restaurant? Sorry, but yes...
Nothing surprises me there. A lot of it is "be nice, be polite" and it's sad that people forget how to do that.
Ben's father is a terror in restaurants, to the point where people who come in hear him ranting and turn around and head back out. I usually slip the waiter an extra $20 when we eat out with him, or more if he's paying, because he either doesn't tip at all, or leaves about 5%.
(There is a nice restaurant in Newton from which Ben's father got banned a few years ago. The fight, involving him, the waiter, the chef, and the restaurant owner, was so unpleasant that I just got up and left.)
