This guy is kinda cranky, but i can't fault his facts in this article. It doesn't apply to really high end places, but your average local cafe/restaurant? Sorry, but yes...

They're pretty good points, yah.

There was a Cantonese noodle place in New Haven whose staff got noticeably cranky if you came in within half an hour of closing. I stopped going in there at the end of the day.

Nothing surprises me there. A lot of it is "be nice, be polite" and it's sad that people forget how to do that.

Ben's father is a terror in restaurants, to the point where people who come in hear him ranting and turn around and head back out. I usually slip the waiter an extra $20 when we eat out with him, or more if he's paying, because he either doesn't tip at all, or leaves about 5%.

(There is a nice restaurant in Newton from which Ben's father got banned a few years ago. The fight, involving him, the waiter, the chef, and the restaurant owner, was so unpleasant that I just got up and left.)

The only one of those that bothers me is "Restaurant staff don't get sick days". That's a full-on public health issue, but I don't know how to fix it.

I've worked pretty damn sick before(and you've seen it) but it's more than just losing the money. In a restaurant you know exactly how bad you're screwing your coworkers when you don't show up, more than in most other industries

Number 4-- who the hell does that?

Number 8-- Does anyone actually do that??? Really? I never heard or saw such a thing. Don't people go to restaurants to get other people to do the food prep????

I'm really curious...

#8: yeah, all the time...also, look up "ghetto latte"

4: good places? not usually, but many places have overworked underpaid employees who don't get much respect and deal poorly
