So, today was certainly interesting

Off I go to the Mill this morning, running an hour late because Alyssa was having a orthodontial emergency, where I find
cloakmaker having a nerovus breakdown, rightfully so. The studio was completely covered in a fine layer of plaster dust. It seems the new downstairs neighbors decided to do some dry wall and plastering. They didn't have permission from the building, nor did they apparently do any plasticking. The powder got blown upstairs. Every bolt of fabric, every machine, every square inch of the place was covered with plaster dust, it looked like someone had painted the floors it was so thick...
Oddly enough, in the middle of this disaster, she didn't get too upset when I gave my 2 week notice.
I amd going to be helping a young couple with a new venture. They bought the old Berlin Orchards, which closed down last spring. Right now they're doing morning coffee and pasties, and ice cream in the evenings, on weekends thru the fall they will be doing harvest festival stuff. Over the winter we will be renovating the first floor and in the spring opening a tea house cafe, with soups, sandwiches and pastries.
This is a great opportunity for me, and Dina does not begrudge it to me, tho the timing could have been better.
The pros of this job: Getting to start my own place, menu and all, from scratch
Setting up the place the way I like
An inordinate amount of trust from a couple that doesn't really particularly know me
If it fails mightily, it was someone else's dime and not someone I see socially
They are really present, the owners, puttng in large amounts of time.
The place has all these animals, including exotic chickens and an alpaca
The cons: 7am start time for now
They seem to not have a clear idea of what they want, which makes it easy for me to get what I
want, but makes me nervous
7 am start time
They don't seem to have loads of experience.
Did I mention a 7am start time?
I've aleady contacted
rikibeth for the summer, and other things are falling in place, I've got coffee contractors to meet with all this week. It's going fast, Im hitting the ground running, but it is really surreal. If I am less than social or interactive for the next few months, sorry, but this place may eat my brain.
