Tie dye party

I just wanted to remind folx about the tie dye party on Saturday July 24th. If you want to dye something remember it must be an all natural fiber, and must be prewashed and dried before coming here. Please bring a small jar to take home some synthrapol to fix your projects when you get home. There will be an available grill for food, I'm pretty sure to have at least some munchies and kids will be hanging out. I'ld like to ask parents to keep an eye on their kids, as the mess could be astounding otherwise, fun tho it might be. Kids and pregnant folx should stay far away from raw dye supplies, if not the whole process. I want to say this as low key as possible, but we have enough supplies to dye about 100 tshirts, this means that if you're planning to do 15 pieces of clothing it's not that fair that alot of people would end up showing up and not being able to partake, however, I'm not the tie dye police, just wanted to remind folx that the supplies aren't endless.

What kind of dyes are they? Are they standard procions? I was going to pre-soak and tie my stuff at home, but if it's not the usual procion dyes, should I still do that? Are you planning to bake them to set the dyes? The synthrapol stuff you mention is something I have never heard of, is it something new?

These are standard procions, and the plan was for people to tie then soak here, since they don't nessecarily have soak supplies at home. Synthrapol is added to the wash after the project has sat for 24 hours, then rinsed, then washed with synthrapol which binds particles together so that they don't get muddy in the wash

A question. How scary is the fixative for pregnant women? (In other words, would it most likely be safe for Chip to do the fixative process in our house, or would it be best to see if we can arrange with someone else at the party to do that part at their house?)

Chip can rinse the stuff out and then wash in the machine quite safely, and it probably it would be fine for you, it's just the dry dye that is marked as unsafe, and I'm just being careful.

sounds fun! I haven't tie dyed since Girl Scouts (when it really *was* the 1960s).
