I posted the wrong url for the woman whose canning so impresses me. It was Canning Totals The rest of her site is interesting to me because it is a simple yet effective use of a web pages by a very elderly pair.
What I want to know is what on earth does she do with 47 quarts of canned beans. The pictures show shelves upon shelves of jars. If they stopped canning now, they would have enough to eat the rest of their lives. And their children and grandchildren's lives.
I guess she really enjoys it, and that, in and of itself, is a wonderful thing. Those loaves of bread looked yummy, too.
Well, I did 56 jars of piccilli the year before last. I was given a bushel of green tomatoes, what else was I to do with them? I ended up giving quite a bit of it away. My mother got a case, The person who gave me the tomatoes got a case. I took jars to every party and gave them away, I still have about 3 or 4 jars in the closet, that I specifically kept for us. Iw as offered the tomatoes last year, but with all the stuff that was going on (with my father and all) I declined, I just didn't have the week to put into putting them up again. I'll probably get green tomatoes at the end of this season if I want them.
I suspect they literally live off their own produce, like many people have, Think of how much veggies you go thru in a year, and then factor in no freezers, grocery store,or transportation. When you grow in your own garden you get your crop for the year in one month.

They sound like facinating people.
