This seems like a good date from what other people have planned, someone please let me know if I'm conflicting with you. We're looking at this kit. If you are interested in other colors, or getting blank clothing added to the order you must let us know by July 5th, and get money to us, we will not be fronting for clothing. The cost of the kit I'll just divide amongst how many people show up. Go to Dharma Trading for some really cool blank clothing. Old procion dyes are rated for 2 years, but you can take a chance on them if they're older. Soda ash and urea are good forever, so let me know if you're bringing any. We'll send people home with baggies of synthrapol if they want to cure overnight(recommended). RSVP's are really necessary for this, we plan to start around 2pm, and the grill will be available for later in day.

2oz jars of dye are pretty cheap, go to the fiber reactive dyes, loads of colors

I would think you could get green by mixing blue and yellow. Perhaps add a bit of black to make it darker. Purple should result from red + blue. I think it should be like printing, get any color you want by mixing C, M, Y and K (or their approximates). I've seen really nice blends of colors produced by double-squirting.

In my experience dyes are not as straightforward as that. Mostly however I use dyes that are "natural" as in from plants (roots, stems, seeds, fruits, barks, etc) but blue and yellow does not always make green (or a green you are happy with). I'd much rather go straight for the tried and true if it's readily/easily available. Or take the time to test and experiment. Right now though, I've got a bunch of kids clothes I've been waiting to tie-dye, and I just want to do it and get it done. :>

Speaking of Dying, does anyone know of places locally or not so local that will dye clothing for you? I'm considering having my wedding dress re-dyed after the wedding...

I have a friend who has a lot of dyeing experience. Her name is Penny and she lives in Taunton. You can email her at pcariolo@earthlink.net, and tell her Martha sent you.

I've got some experience in dyeing clothes, but nothing like a wedding dress. My first question would be what is the dress made from? Not all dyes are created equally. Natural fibers tend to take color best. But there are dyes more suited to coton, wool, silk ect. and so forth. I honestly like dying silk most of all. I find I get the best results. Other factors to consider are things like weight. A dye bath needs to be calculated in regards to the dry weight of the intended amount of fabric it's supposed to dye.

We have a whole bottle of urea left from the last tie-dye party.
