Peachy conflict

Peaches are really expensive this year because of cold spring,lame summer, and no july/aug heatwaves to really ripen up the fruit. I wanted to can loads of peaches this summer, but am wondering if it's worth it. The upside is that I'ld have really nice canned peaches in february to make pies and such with. I wanted to try cardamon peaches. The downside is that they'ld be about 4$/jar, which seems silly since you can buy 'em at the store for much cheaper. Dunno, thoughts anyone?
