Sounds tasty!

Want to pass on some delightful potato+cream recipe? I find myself with potatoes and cream and don't know whether to go scalloped or au gratin (or what the difference between the two is) and being in charge of starch for tomorrow. Other ingredients may be purchased, but it's easier if not. Parmesan, and the usual spices are also available...

they are basically the same thing. American recipes use a bechamel, french ones just cook with cream. and they traditionally rub a cut clove of garlic in the pan before layering.
