the weather is actually affecting my cooking plans. I am usually confident that at this time of the year I can use the garage as a secondary fridge.Not today

Hm, might be time to plug in the freezer we used to own, which now resides in Arisia storage, even if it doubles the electricity bill. Of course, someone else may have grabbed it by now.

But yeah, this is annoying.

I had the same problem this past Thanksgiving when it came to brining the turkey. Usually it's cold enough that I can leave a brined turkey in a bucket in the garage and trust that I won't kill my guests. This year I had to scrabble room in the garage fridge.

You can brine in a cooler really well.As long as there are some ice cubes floating you can be sure your temps are good.

I used a cooler my first year but it was a pain. If I didn't line it with a plastic bag, I worried about sanitation. If I did line it, it was a bitch to get set up properly and it required a lot more brine.
