I'm a software guy, I don't do hardware. I say you start running it from the beginning again to see if you can recreate the error condition at the same place.
Among certain car enthusiasts, it is a truism that British cars don't use electricity. They used pressurized smoke to power things. Every now and then the smoke leaks, and the hoses (which look, oddly enough, like little wires) must be patched.

Mr. Sweeper on Moody Street in Waltham repairs vacuums and sells replacement parts. They even sell used (but working) replacement parts for pretty cheap. I got a quote on the phone for our vacuum which had a broken part, but when we brought it in the part was actually significantly cheaper.
