I'm at the 2 year mark with the weightloss. I started out at 265# and am now 175#. My dr. has cut me back to yearly checkups now. It's been very worthwhile, and I recomend lapbanding to anyone with morbid obesity. I have less than 10# to reach my goal weight, but that's just letting things go as they are without worrying about it.It's been interesting. My life hasn't particularly changed other than the diabetes being cured. And I can buy nicer clothes to wear, other than that it's all been the same. It's strange to think of being here compared to where I was 2 years ago, terrified I'ld die from diabetic complications like some relatives, and determined to change that. This is a good place.Someday i'll post before and after photos

Faifield bariatrics (http://www.stvincents.org/healthservices/bariatrics/team.cfm) Which does lapbanding. They are in CT, which I went to since my mother lives near there. The thought was I would recover from surgery there, but I felt well enogh the morning after to go straight home to Littleton. There are many excellant lapbanding dr.s in Boston if you are interested, and more insureres are covering it.

Congratulations!

I'm down 25# in three months; I haven't considered other options but am interested in others' success factors. The good note is that, in that three months, my A1c is down from 8.9 to 6.7...

So is your stomach banded for the rest of your life?

yup, but a small price to pay, I think, for never getting so hungry I gain weight eating reasonable foods, and all. I have never felt truly deprived during this, once i got past not ever eating fried calamari again(just about the only truly verboten food). Getting used to feeling abnormal in social situations was easily passed, and now my mind boggles at how much people consume at one sitting, and tho bread, chicken breast and steak are hard for me to eat I can if I really am careful about chewing well. Definately the easiest weight loss program I've ever been on(and I've been on many) with just a brief 1/2 hour surgery to start with.

I assume they can take the band off if there's some medical reason too. (Like, I dunno, you get cancer and you are losing weight too much)...?

Why is calamari in particular verboten more than other things?

actually, they don't remove it, they just adjust the band to full open, which is about2.5 inch diameter, which is more than enough to intake lots of calories, and cancer is the reason they give for this needing to be done.

Ah! I didn't know until now that you'd had the Lap-Band. I've been wondering though, when you've mentioned Dr. supervision for your weight loss. I may be contacting you more privately about this...

Congrats. You look great, as always, but I'm glad to hear you're free of that fear.
