That's surprising

Remember last years goddam tree rats ? This year they seem to have left my peaches alone. We picked a bushel today and it looks like another bushel is still on the tree. Cool, time to make peach jam. Unfortunately it looks like on of the trees is dying as 1/3 of the branches are dead.

We got a couple boxes of Harry and David peaches last week - they aren't nearly as nice as the famous H&D pears, and indeed, probably aren't as nice as the peaches from your back yard. I have been having fun baking them into pies and making ice cream from them.

We get H+D fruit too, nectarine this week. The problem I have with H+D fruit is it's all been bred to be very large, very sweet and very juicy, often at the expense of flavor. I find them nearly useless for cooking or canning as they are just too juicy. Out of hand they're fine, but a large box of nectarines amongst 1 adult and 2 kids(I can't finish a large piece of fruit anymore) makes it a race against nature to finish them off.
