I've been wondering about this whole suburban lifestyle. Bottom line, I am a suburban mom with 2 kids in school, and the attendant lifestyles, ferrying kids, grocery shopping, part time work. I've wondered why I think of myself as different from these other women, and certain things have occured to me. Apart from the surface things(tattoos and peircings) and perhaps deeper lifestyle issues like bisexuality, polyamory and very lefty politics, I thinks what sets me apart from them is that I entered this life with a community in place. Not everyone, even most, are living the same way, but they are part of my life and I theirs. They are who I turn to for support, recreation, friendship, and social structure. The other moms I meet are all trying to find these things thru their lives now, thru school activities, church stuff or neighborhood associations. I don't hate my neighbors, I just don't care. I want to wave hello as I drive past them, and not have to call them to turn down their music. I don't want them to think they have input in my life. This all makes me realise how much richer my life is, in that the people are varied, different and doing things very different than I am, but I know I could call on my friends and my greater community in times of peril, and times of joy. This is what saves me from going insane out here...thanx folx
