*nods* It's true. Nathan and I did a few things promptly upon getting the Purple Tub place. His first act, as I recall (before I showed up on the doorstep) was to spend several minutes skipping up and down the hall singing "Mine, mine, mine!"
Shortly after that, we both said "We need cats." It was not a question.
The cats were the first thing in my adult life that I did not think of as a transient thing. We never intended to stay in the apartment forever, I didn't intend to stay at my job long, I never dreamed that I might actually marry someone just because we were dating.
But the cats, those I was sticking by. Hell or high water or allergic roommates or added difficulty in finding a lease, it didn't matter. This was commitment.
I do think of getting Charlie and Charcoal as being my first real adult act. Losing Charlie changed a lot of things about the dynamic of that life. And I have trouble visualizing what my adult life will be like when I don't have Charcoal either.
